France and Netherlands played a tight match to edge towards the last of the round of 16 of the Euro 2024. The encounter was at the Leipzig stadium and resulted in a 0-0 draw in the absence of Kylian Mbappe who was at the bench due to a broken nose. Credit goes to the France vs Austria match that saw 1-0 win of Mbappe’s team 4 days ago.
Talking about the current match, France had 2 glorious chances that Antoine Greizmann couldn’t convert and Netherlands scored a goal but that was ruled out controversially by the referee and VAR much to the Dutch’s dismay and France’s relief.
Starting 11 and formation of both the teams;
Without France’s golden boy and regular captain, Kylian Mbappe not playing, Antoine Greizmann led the side with Maignan as the Goalkeeper along with Dembele, Kante and Thuram giving support in the attacking sides as the team started off with a 1-4-4-1-1, while Harnandez, Saliba, Kounde and Upamecano packed up the defence along with Rabiot and Tchouameni handling the left side of the midfield.
The Dutch team on the other hand led by Van Dijk came in with a 1-4-2-3-1 formation. Depay, Simons, Frimpong, and Gakpo stormed up as the attacking strikers and wingers while Schouten and Reijnders took up the midfield. Defenders Dumfries, de Vrij, along with captain Van Dijk and N. Aké and goalkeeper Verbruggen were in charge of keeping the ball away from the goalpost.
Stats of the Match;
France dominated the ball possession (63% vs 37%) while Netherlands were good at keeping the shots on target (4 out of 8 shots of Dutch players were on goal while French players shot 15 times but kept 3 on goal). There were 3 corners won by the Netherlands while France had 6. Total passes were 660 by France with accuracy of 92% while Netherlands passed the ball 398 times with 88% accuracy.
There were 13 fouls made by Netherlands whereas France did 8 of them. There were 4 offsides given to the Dutch team while there was a sole yellow card handed out to Schouten.
Georgia vs Czech Republic Match Prediction;
This is going to be a cracker of a game as both the teams know quite well of their dimming chances of qualifying to the next round of the Euros. Both the teams have faced defeats even after battling it out till the last moment with Portugal and Turkey respectively. And now as they head out to the kick off at 6.30 pm IST at the Volksparkstadion today, both Georgia and the Czechs would like to score early and keep the momentum high to secure winning points in the must win game. Although the game can be quite equal in terms of head to head, Czechs are going to win this encounter on the pitch this evening seeing the past matches played by both the teams.
Turkey vs Portugal: Match Prediction;
This high voltage match is what everyone must be yearning to see. A glimpse of Cristiano Ronaldo shooting the ball into the net is what a full house gathers for. Turkey after the 1-3 win against Georgia would be high on confidence but they are going to face Portugal who are one of the best teams this season. With the likes of Cristiano leading the side along with players like Pepe, Bernando Silva, Joao Felix, and Bruma, supporting him, it is going to be really an uphill task for Turkey to score and keep itself on the winning side. Cristiano Ronaldo would like to score and increase the goal tally with Felix coming later and Bruma alongside him. It’s going to be a full house again as the match starts from 9.30 pm IST at the Signal Iduna Park.
