Chicken 65 grabs a spot on world’s top 10 fried chicken dishes. Here’s the list.

Non-vegetarians across the globe are fond of fried chicken. It’s a fact. After all, who doesn’t like the juicy tender bites with a crispy crust? But what’s even better is that every region has its own unique way of preparing this indulgence.

Since some of the dishes are enjoyed throughout the country, they also embrace numerous regional variations over the years. Recognising the popularity of fried chicken, prominent food guide Taste Atlas has released a list of the “10 Best Chicken Dishes” in the world.

Indonesia’s ayam goreng bagged the top spot on the list, scoring 4.6 stars out of 5. It consists of chicken cuts, which are marinated in spices before shortly being braised and then fried until golden and crispy, according to Taste Atlas.

While the marinade is typically based on traditional spices such as turmeric and tamarind, it also comes in several regional variations as the dish is enjoyed throughout the country. Other variations may include different spices or additions like rice flour crumbs or grated coconut.

India’s very own Chicken 65 made the country proud by grabbing a spot on the global list. Taste Atlas described it as a classic poultry dish, shining the spotlight on a few theories about its origin. The most popular theory regards A M Buhari from Tamil Nadu as the original prompt.

Another theory says the original dish was prepared with 65 hot chili peppers. Some unlikely theories include one that claims the original chicken was cut into 65 pieces and another that says the chicken was 65 days old when the dish was made.

Nevertheless, just like ayam goreng, Chicken 65 also enjoys a number of regional variations across South India. While Karnataka garnishes the dish with grated coconut, those in Andhra Pradesh cook the chicken instead of frying it, Taste Atlas added.
