FC Chelsea has roped in Moises Caicedo for a record-breaking £115 million, an enormous eight-year contract that lasts until 2031 including an option for a further 12 months beyond that. The Blues have agreed a deal with the 21-year-old, paying a £100 million upfront plus another £15 million in achievable add-ons.
Liverpool was eyeing Caicedo for £111 million but was unable to convince him to move to Anfield. His preference was always Chelsea. And now, he will be playing the defensive midfield position. “I am so happy to join Chelsea! I am so excited to be here at this big club and I didn’t have to think twice when Chelsea called me. I just knew I wanted to sign for the club. It’s a dream come true to be here and I can’t wait to get started with the team,” Caicedo said.
Laurence Stewart and Paul Winstanley, co-sporting directors, said Moises has proved himself as a standout player in European football over the past 18 months. “Moises possesses a rare midfield skill set and is a player we’ve been targeting for some time. We believe he will make a significant impact at Stamford Bridge this season and in the years ahead.”
The Ecuadorian is the seventh notable signing of another hugely busy window at Chelsea, following Christopher Nkunku, Axel Disasi, Nicolas Jackson, Robert Sanchez, Lesley Ugochukwu, Angelo Gabriel, and other talented players.
Moreover, Chelsea is also keen for Romeo Lavia and hopes to sign Michael Olise in a £45 million deal. The Blues has a £17 million deal for Brazilian club Santos striker Deivid Washington, who will be loaned to new partner club Strasbourg in France. Chelsea’s new manager Mauricio Pochettino is looking to build a successful first season after a 1-1 draw with Liverpool on Sunday.
