Weekly Weather Update: Boston Braces for a Mix of Sunshine, Rain, and Wind

Boston is in for a week of transitions in weather patterns — shifting from pleasant sun to gusty winds and scattered rain showers along the way. If you’re thinking about your week ahead, here’s the forecast ahead and how to prepare it all.

Friday, October 10- Clear and Sunny

The weekend will kick off on a clear day. Expect lots of sun with temperatures around 61°F (16°C) and lows around 48°F (9°C) overnight. It’s an excellent day for being outdoors — a morning jog along the Charles River or an evening walk downtown. Just bring a light jacket for the early morning.

Saturday, October 11 – Warming & Clouds Arriving

Saturday will be mild with a mix of sun with clouds developing in the afternoon. Expect highs around 64°F (18°C) during the day and a low around 54°F (12°C) when the sun goes down. Fairly comfortable weather, but you may notice the clouds building in by the evening. Still another great day for any weekend plans, or out doing errands before potential rain develops.

Sunday, October 12 – Breezy and Cloudy with Light Showers

A shift will occur on Sunday. Expect cloudy skies and windy conditions with light rain possible, especially in the afternoon. It will be cool at about 62 °F (16 °C). Certainly, it is not a washout, but if you do go outside, make sure you have an umbrella or waterproof jacket with you since it can drizzle in Boston in the fall.

Monday, October 13 – Windy and Wet Start to the Week

It does look particularly rough on Monday. The forecast is calling for periods of heavy rain and wind, possibly associated with a tropical rainstorm coming through the area. High temperatures will be near 61 °F (16 °C) and lows about 53 °F (12 °C). Expect the potential for localised flooding and/or power outages, as it is best to limit travel and prepare emergency supplies.

Tuesday, October 14 – Rain to Drizzle

Rain will persist into Tuesday, with occasional light rain and cool breezes. Highs will be 60 °F (15 °C) and lows about 50 °F (10 °C). It would be an indoor day — perhaps a stop at a café for a warm drink or catching up on work from home.

Wednesday, October 15 – A Break in the Clouds

Midweek good news! The sun is expected to make another appearance. It will be a tad warmer with highs around 64°F (18°C), so it will be nice to get back outside after a rainy couple of days. Wednesday shall be a nice relief.

Thursday, October 16 – Cloudiness Returns with Rain in the Afternoon

The week wraps up with more clouds with a possible shower in the afternoon. Highs around 61°F (16°C) and lows 46°F (8°C).  Morning plans should be fine, but you might want your umbrella in the evening.

What to Expect Overall

Boston weather this week is your classic October feeling- cool mornings, mild afternoons, and rain on and off. The beginning and middle of the week will be your best outdoor times, while Monday and Tuesday will be the wettest.

If you commute, wear layers and take rain gear. If you fly or travel early in the week, monitor for storm advisories and flight delays from strong winds.
