US President Joe Biden has expressed doubts about a peaceful transition of power if Donald Trump loses the upcoming presidential election. In a recent CBS News interview, Biden stated, “If Trump loses, I’m not confident at all.”
Biden highlighted that Trump should be taken seriously when he says things like, “if we lose it will be a bloodbath,” referring to comments Trump made about the auto industry in March, which drew widespread criticism. The Biden campaign used these remarks in an ad, emphasizing that Trump’s rhetoric poses a threat to democracy, accusing him of “encouraging and excusing political violence.”

In response, the Trump campaign claimed the comments were taken out of context and specifically related to the auto industry. Trump addressed the controversy on social media, accusing his opponents of misquoting him and clarifying that he was referring to the negative impact of imports under Biden’s policies on the auto industry.
Biden has voiced concerns in the past about Trump’s willingness to accept election results. During a June presidential debate, Trump was asked if he would accept the 2024 election outcome, to which he responded, “If it’s a fair and legal and good election, absolutely,” after initially dodging the question.
Trump’s history of making unfounded claims about election fraud, particularly after his 2020 loss, and the subsequent storming of the Capitol by his supporters in January 2021, further fuel these concerns. In the CBS interview, Biden also hinted at efforts to complicate post-election certification processes, though he did not elaborate on the details.
