Antisemitism Act Passed House Vote. Check Elon Musk’s Reaction

On Wednesday the House of Representatives approved the Antisemitism Awareness Act.

This act comes at a time when protests are taking place across the various universities in the country of America. These protests are gaining support from some Jewish college students but at the same time, many students feel unsafe on campus.

So, this is a good time for the Anti-Semitism Awareness Act. This act could make an easier way for concerned students to file civil rights complaints if they feel unsafe.

According to Mike Lawler and Josh Gottheimer who are the sponsors of the bipartisan bill. They said that the act aims to define antisemitism. “We need to be able to define antisemitism.”

Department of Education can use the definition by the International Holocaust Remembrance Alliance to define The Anti-Semitism Awareness Act. According to that definition, Antisemitism is a certain belief about Jews that can be expressed as hatred towards Jews.

It defines anti-Semitism recently media heard and noted many slogans from the campus of colleges

Lawler said, “When you hear ‘From the river to the sea, Palestine will be free,’ that is a call for the eradication of Jews and the state of Israel”.

Gottheimer said, “All of our colleges have a responsibility to protect against hate and discrimination. There is a difference between speech that should be protected and harassment and violence and intimidation, such as death threats.”

Colleges that fail to protect Jewish students now face civil rights enforcement.

After the news of the passing of this bill from the House of Representatives came, its criticism also started. Some said the bill was too broad and would impinge on freedom of expression and could stifle criticism of Israel.

But supporters of the bill say that in the name of freedom of expression, people are crossing their limits due to which they may have to face problems in the future.
