Alaska authorities are searching for a small plane. The pieces of the plane went missing while flying from Unalakleet to Nome.
The Cessna Caravan which Bering Air operates had nine passengers and a pilot on board when it lost contact about 12 miles offshore.
The last location of the plane was shared by the US Coast Guard and local rescue teams, they are running search operations in the region. Officials say the pilot had planned to circle in the air while waiting for the runway in Nome to be cleared.
There is no information yet about the people on board. The search is still ongoing.
Alaska’s Governor, Mike Dunleavy, said he was “heartbroken” by the disappearance of the flight. “Our prayers are with the passengers, the pilot, and their loved ones during this difficult time,” he said.
