UAE: The Middle East’s Emerging Peacemaker – Read How UAE is Transforming the Region

The Middle East is one of the most volatile regions in the world. Instability, wars, trade wars, lack of democracy, proxy games, international disruptions, etc. are some of the common reasons that make the region unstable.

In recent times we have witnessed a change that is becoming a symbol of hope to bring stability, peace, and harmony in the region and spread the agenda of human unity across the world. We would not mind if we called the UAE a peacemaker in the Middle East! Why we are saying this? How can we say this when many big players are working on the ground? Let’s join us in the article where we talk about from 2020 to now, how UAE is promoting peace.

The small Gulf state UAE has big ambitions as a peacemaker.

In September 2020 a historic agreement was signed between Israel and UAE which transformed the whole Middle East. That was the Abraham Accords, which led to the new cooperations and ties in the Middle Eastern region. UAE plays an important role here which is reflected by the more peace and relations between nations.

His Highness Mohammed Bin Zayed was the prime person who stood strong with the Abraham Accords between Israel and many Arab states.

The Abraham Accords were based on a simple promise and vision: diplomacy and communication would lead to greater stability, prosperity, and hope.

The Abraham Accords were signed on September 15, 2020, by UAE Foreign Minister Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Bahraini Foreign Minister Abdullatif bin Rashid Al Zayani, and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. After this, relations between the countries began to grow as he served as the first ambassador of the United Arab Emirates. Israel entered the country on March 1, 2021.

After that many other countries started to establish relations with countries like Sudan and Morocco and relations with Israel also became normal.

UAE and world leaders always appreciate the UAE for taking the initiative to welcome the Abraham Accords for peace.

Sheikh Abdullah once said, “We must continue to build on this strong foundation to contribute to peace, stability, and prosperity in the region.”

UAE’s Role in Global Peace

Under the great leadership of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed, the UAE shifted its policy from military to diplomacy, investment, science and technology, enhancing relations such as soft powers.

When we said UAE is becoming a peacemaker we meant ‘global peace maker’, UAE is helping nation in the world to establish peace. UAE tried to mediate between India and Pakistan, but recently we saw that they are demanding an immediate ceasefire in Gaza etc. They are looking for a political solution for civil wars in Libya, and reduced troops from Yemen. The UAE is also trying to ease tensions with Iran and Syria, concluding that the war there is effectively over and the only way to advance the region’s interests.

Apart from these UAE works with partners to maintain international peace and security, following the UN Charter. They serve as co-chairs of the Working Group on Stabilization and support the UN team dealing with crimes against women and children by Da’esh/ISIL. The UAE is committed to multilateral cooperation, considering local and regional contexts to combat terrorism and extremism.

To maintain and boost their efforts ‘to establish peace’ UAE is committed to promoting Counterterrorism Efforts

The UAE condemns terrorism and extremism in all forms and is at the forefront of global efforts to combat these issues. They are a leading member of the Global Coalition against Da’esh and support alliances to fight extremist groups in the Middle East and beyond.

The UAE is committed to international peace and security, supporting political solutions to conflicts. They back the Stockholm Agreement to end the conflict in Yemen and consistently advocate for a two-state solution to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict. As Chair of the Group of Member States of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC), the UAE supports the UN Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA).
