His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, recently chaired a meeting that resulted in the approval of 78 new environmental projects and initiatives. These developments are aimed at enhancing the country’s sustainability efforts and preparing for the hosting of COP28, an important global environmental conference. During the meeting, several other significant decisions were made, including the reformation of the Board of Directors of the Emirates Investment Authority and the endorsement of the state’s agenda for the development of service exports.
Environmental Projects and Strategies:
The UAE, under the leadership of Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, has long been committed to environmental preservation and sustainable development. The meeting held at Al Watan Palace in Abu Dhabi marked another milestone in the country’s efforts. With the approval of 78 new environmental projects and initiatives, the UAE aims to address crucial aspects of sustainability and environmental protection.
Among the projects approved are national strategies to reduce carbon emissions and regulate the use of solar energy products. These strategies demonstrate the UAE’s commitment to combatting climate change and transitioning to cleaner and renewable energy sources. Additionally, sustainable tourism initiatives were endorsed, which will help promote environmentally friendly practices within the tourism sector, ensuring the preservation of natural resources and cultural heritage.
Recognizing the importance of international cooperation in addressing global environmental challenges, the Emirates Council for Food Security launched an Agricultural Climate Innovation Initiative in collaboration with the United States. This initiative seeks to establish a global platform for agricultural innovation, with the support of the World Economic Forum. The UAE aims to play a leading role in fostering sustainable agricultural practices and ensuring food security in the face of climate change.
Furthermore, the UAE plans to establish a Food Technology Valley in Dubai, a hub for technological advancements in the food industry. This ambitious project will serve as a catalyst for innovation, research, and development in sustainable food production and distribution. By creating a conducive environment for collaboration and investment, the Food Technology Valley will help position the UAE as a global leader in the food technology sector.
Service Exports Development
The approval of the state’s agenda for the development of service exports also took place in the meeting. This comprehensive agenda covers various sectors, including education, medical tourism, traditional and Islamic financial services, and the creative economy. By focusing on these sectors, the UAE aims to enhance its global presence and diversify its economy beyond oil revenues.
To support the development of these sectors, the Ministry of Economy will actively seek international partnerships and implement programs that facilitate the export of UAE companies’ services. This strategic approach will not only boost economic growth but also contribute to the country’s reputation as a hub for high-quality services in the region.
Other Key Decisions:
During the meeting, His Highness also highlighted the significant achievements of the UAE’s foreign trade. In 2022, the country’s non-oil foreign trade exceeded 2.2 trillion dirhams for the first time, reflecting its robust economic performance and global trade relations.
Additionally, the meeting witnessed the approval of the Darak platform, which aims to provide building solutions, banking facilities, and exclusive offers to citizens during the construction of their homes. This platform exemplifies the UAE’s commitment to supporting its citizens and ensuring their access to affordable housing.
The recent meeting chaired by Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum showcased the UAE’s unwavering commitment to environmental sustainability, economic diversification, and citizen welfare. With the approval of 78 new environmental projects and initiatives, including national strategies to reduce carbon emissions and the launch of the Darak platform, the UAE continues to set an example for the world in terms of sustainable development. As preparations for hosting COP28 progress, the UAE is poised to play a crucial role in shaping the global environmental agenda and fostering international collaboration towards a more sustainable future.
