UAE and US to showcase expected outcomes of the common climate goals at Cop28
The United Arab Emirates and United States have been cooperating and collaborating towards attaining the shared climate action goals while focusing on the clean energy sector. During the UN climate summit, Cop28 to be hosted by Dubai in 2023, the UAE and US will showcase the expected and practical outcomes of the shared actions towards the climate action. Arun Venkataraman, the Assistant Secretary of Commerce for Global Markets and Director-General of the U.S. and Foreign Commercial Service, said, “UAE – US commercial cooperation has huge potential in multiple sectors, but he found more prospects in clean energy and digital economy where we have strong commercial partnerships. By growing on those commercial partnerships, we hope to be able to do even bigger and better things, going forward.”
Common climate goals shared by UAE and US
Arun Venkataraman lauded in an interview with the state news agency WAM the efforts and commitment of the UAE Government to develop the clean energy sector for boosting the renewable energy that is more energy efficient and also supports decarbonization. “By pursuing all of these objectives, we not only enhance our commercial collaboration, but we do so in a way that advances our shared climate objectives. I think we will see a number of opportunities for that collaboration to grow [especially, ahead of Cop 28]. We will really see how this collaboration results in practical outcomes that we can showcase at Cop 28,” Venkataraman explained, referring to Cop28 that is scheduled to take place in November 2023 at Expo City Dubai.
The official expressed his hope that US and Emirates’ joint collaboration may bring some of the desired climate action solutions jointly to emerging markets globally.
Cooperation in renewable energy sector
When asked by WAM about the Biden administration’s proactive climate action policies and their impact, Mr. Venkataraman said, “I think what that means is you will see that translated into the commercial realm where we will have much stronger production in the renewable sectors. We will have greater commercial activities in the production of EV [electrical vehicles] batteries.” He further emphasized on increased partnerships with other countries to expand the renewable energy options. “This will help grow the commercial partnerships with the UAE in renewable energy sector exponentially,” he added.
Strategic partnership between UAE and US
“We are very pleased to be able to return to the Emirates after a long period of not being able to visit because of the pandemic and the associated restrictions. This visit is really an opportunity for us to reengage with our counterparts and chart out a path for us to build on several decades of strategic partnership that we have had with the emirates,” the US diplomat said.
